Itinerary

Day 1
Arusha to Marangu Gate to Marangu Hut
Pick up from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast and drive for 2 hours to Marangu Gate. Meet the Colobus Monkey on your way as you hike through the rainforest trail. Hiking for 4 hours to Marangu Hut for your dinner and overnight

Distance: 8km

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Altitude: 2700m.

Accommodation at the Mandara Hut

Day 2
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, continue through the rainforest area until the forest trails open onto the open Moorland Zones, where you will get your first glimpse of Kibo and Mawenzi, two of the three volcanic peaks. You will spend the night in Horombo Hut today.

Distance: 12Km

Hiking Time: 2–3 Hours

Altitude: 3720m.

Day 3
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast, we pack and trek across the Alpine Arid Zone. This is the last water source. The zone is dry and rocky, and you may need to walk for up to 7 hours to reach Kibo Hut for dinner and overnight.

Hiking Time: 5-7 Hours

Altitude: 4700.

Day 4
Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut
Wake up around 2300 hours; this is the most difficult night. When you travel to Gilman's Point, you will normally face snow on your route up to Uhuru Peak. After spending some time on Uhuru Peak, you will trek 3 hours down to Horombo Hut.

Hiking Time: 16Hrs

Altitude: 5895m.

Day 5
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Arusha
On your final day of the trek, we will descend 1740m to Marangu Gate to pick up your summit credentials from the Park Headquarters. Your driver will meet you at the airport or at your hotel.
